JOB TITLE: Student Research Fellow
Primary Function:
The student fellow shall demonstrate an interest in promoting free society principles. The student fellow will develop professionally by:
- assisting Institute faculty fellows with their research.
- assisting the Institute in carrying out its public events.
- enhancing his or her professional networks and networking skills.
Source of Supervision:
The student fellow will report directly to the senior director and a faculty mentor. The student fellow will also receive instruction from the Institute's staff.
Expectations:
Fellows are expected to:
- write a biography of 350 words for use in Institute publicity efforts.
- work an average of 19 hours per month with the faculty member to who they are assigned.
- submit hours worked through MyGCC timecard portal.
- attend research training session(s) organized by the Institute.
- report professional advancements such as internships, full-time employment, graduate school enrollment and awards.
- take at least one trip with a faculty networking advisor, if time allows, for networking purposes. All expenses paid by the Institute. Research fellows should seek to expand their professional networks.
- connect with student fellows alumni.
- meet monthly with marketing fellows.
- assist with Institute events including the Foundations of American Leadership luncheon, Reagan lecture and annual conference.
- read Institute opinion editorials.
- enroll, if time allows, in the Institute's annual conference course, and attend on-campus events.
- understand the Koch Associates and Internships programs.
- upon graduation, participate in the student fellows alumni network and assist on-campus fellows.
- participate in a professional evaluation twice each semester with the senior director.
Evaluation:
The senior director will make periodic checks with both fellows and faculty members to ensure that work is progressing on assigned research tasks.
